Abstract
The primary aim of the current research was to explore the knowledge gap of climate-smart agricultural practices for Wheat cultivation. This was achieved through several sub-objectives: Identifying the level of knowledge for Wheat farmers about climate-smart agricultural practices, Studying the differences in the level of farmers’ knowledge of climate-smart agricultural practices for wheat cultivation, Examining the relationship between farmers' knowledge of climate-smart agricultural practices for wheat cultivation and the studied independent variables, Exploring the Knowledge Gap in Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices for Wheat Cultivation and Identify the main problems and challenges faced by the surveyed farmers regarding climate-smart agricultural practices for wheat cultivation in the study area.
To achieve the research objectives, a random sample of 276 Wheat farmers from three villages in Al-Sharqia Governorate was selected using the Krejcie and Morgan formula. A questionnaire was designed and administered through personal interviews during November and December 2024. The data were analyzed using frequency tables, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Cronbach's alpha, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Chi-square test, with the help of SPSS software.
The key findings: approximately 76% of the respondents had a high level of knowledge about climate-smart agricultural practices for Wheat cultivation. Significant differences were found between farmers' knowledge and the following independent variables: age, educational status, household monthly income, Wheat yield per acre, years of experience in Wheat farming, source of guidance for selecting Wheat varieties, knowledge of climate change, membership and participation in rural organizations, utilization of agricultural information sources, social mobility, leadership, attitude towards agricultural innovations, and knowledge and use of digital technology applications in agriculture. The results revealed a recommended knowledge gap of 46%, indicating that farmers lacked 46% of the recommended knowledge. The main problems faced by the respondents in the study area were the spread of fungal diseases, rust, weeds, and rodents, with a prevalence rate of 86.6%.
