Abstract
Egypt is one of the first countries in the world to prepare a strategy for women’s empowerment 2030 through the National Council for Women, and aims to make women by 2030 a key partner in the sustainable development strategy, The second pillar of the strategy is based on the economic empowerment of women through the development of women’s capabilities to expand options working before it, achieving equal opportunities in employing women in all sectors, including the private sector, increasing their participation in business, and spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among women, The National Council for Women will follow up on the implementation of the strategy with various ministries and relevant authorities, The economic empowerment of women comes through the small and medium enterprises sector, which is one of the main sectors that absorb decent and productive job opportunities for women in various Egyptian regions and governorates, and the priority given to the small and medium enterprises sector by the Egyptian government is distinguished by achieving high added value, spatial development and contribution in the regional balance of development, the research problem, which was the significant increase in the participation of women in the labor market at the global level during the past two decades, Despite this, the percentage of women’s participation in the Egyptian labor market decreased from 23,7% The total labor force in 2017 was 16,8% of the total labor force (15 years and over) compared to 83,2% for men in 2020, and the unemployment rate for females was 17,7% compared to 6,0% for males, while the percentage of working females was 15% compared to 85% for males in 2020, Despite this, the percentage of lending to small projects directed at women was only 23% in 2015, The objectives of the study, which were mainly represented in identifying the role of women in the development of small and micro enterprises in Egypt.
